Hoffmann Group has appointed Dr Robert Blackburn the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Effective January 1 2017, he will take over as Chair of the Board of Executive Directors with the aim of promoting growth both nationally and internationally, and of leading Hoffmann Group into the digital age.

Robert Blackburn is considered internationally to be a leading mind with strategic vision and to be a pioneer in the field of digitalization. As President of Supply Chain Operations & Information Services at BASF Group he has led the global transformation and digitalization of the chemical giant, amongst other responsibilities.

“The guiding values and culture at Hoffmann Group impressed me from the very beginning,” explains Robert Blackburn. “I am looking forward to taking on the challenges of Hoffmann with a clear vision and a long-term strategy – together with the employees – as it should in a family-owned company. I am convinced that together, we will be successful in continuing the success of Hoffmann in the future.”

Before joining BASF in 2007, the father of four children held leadership roles at IBM and Deloitte. Today, Robert Blackburn is both chair and member of several supervisory boards and teaches as a lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Born in the USA, he completed his Bachelor of Science at the universities of Maryland and Heidelberg, and obtained a Master in the field of Management from the University of Virginia. He subsequently gained his doctorate in Economics at the Julius-Maximilius University of Würzburg.
